Hotel Information:
We recommend that you stay in downtown Annapolis. Annapolis is not very big and the vast majority of the things you'll want to do are all downtown. So if you stay downtown you can easily walk to all of the hot tourist spots.
There are two major hotels downtown: Loews Hotel & Marriott.
Hope's Dad's travel agent put together a block of rooms at the Loews Hotel. The Loews Hotel (162 West Street) is right by the Govenor's Mansion and Church Circle. It is downtown, but not on the water. She has reserved 10 rooms at a rate of $159 a night. You have to reserve the room 30 days prior to get this rate and this block. Call Jackie at Travel Coordinators: 1-800-521-8830.
The Annapolis Marriot (80 Compromise Street) will not do blocks of rooms. We looked on www.orbitz.com and found a AAA rate for $189 night. This hotel is on City Dock (i.e. on the water) and also very nice. This room is for a city view, not water view. Their number is 410-268-7555.
If you are intersted in staying in a historic hotel you can also try the Calvert House. The Calvert House is right on State Circle. Rooms start at $189 a night. Their number is 1-800-847-8882 and their website is www.annapolisinns.com They also handle the bookings for the Maryland Inn (on Church Circle) and the Robert Johnson House (on State Circle). We recently discovered when we went to Annapolis to plan the wedding that the Maryland Inn is only nice on the outside. We do not recommend that you stay there. We do not know anything about the Robert Johnson House. The Calvert House is very nice. So if you are looking for a historic inn, Calvert House is your best bet.
Besides these hotels downtown Annapolis is full of Bed & Breakfasts. There are a bunch, in a variety of price ranges. We don't know much about the Bed & Breakfasts, except they all look cute from the outside.
We cannot stress enought that downtown Annapolis is extremely small. If you are staying downtown or even in Eastport you are in easy walking distance of the Governor's Mansion, State House, City Dock, Naval Academty, St. Mary's Church and about 10 million other historic sites or strange places that claim George Washington once slept there. (Annapolis was the country's Capital very briefly after the Revoluntionary war.) If you want to try and get the lay of the land visit www.ci.annapolis.md.us It also has information on places to stay.
If you are interested in saving a little money than you are going to want to try a hotel closer to the Annapolis Mall or on Riva Road. These places are about a 10 minute drive from downtown.
The Best Western (2520 Riva Road) had a corporate rate available on www.orbitz.com for $98.96 a night.
The Radisson (210 Holiday Court, just off Riva Road and Route 50) has a web deal for $109 a night. If you plan on staying through Monday then Sunday night drops down to $89. Their website is: www.radisson.com
There are a couple more places you can check out. Just make sure not to stay on Kent Island (it is over a 2 1/2 mile toll bridge that often gets congested with beach traffic) or in Bowie.
Hopefully this information is helpful. We recommend that you book a room soon, since it will be Labor Day weekend and Annapolis is a tourist town. If you have any questions give us a call or email us.
Airport Information:
BWI is the closest and easiest airport to navigate. It is about 20 minutes away from Annapolis and is easily accesible. We recommend that you try to fly into BWI.
However if you can save some money, Dulles and Reagan National airports are also viable alternatives.
Dulles is in Northern Virginia and about an hour and 15 minutes away. You will have to take the Beltway or go through D.C.
Reagan National (or National as everyone who has ever used the airport calls it) is in Washington D.C and half hour to 45 minutes away from Annapolis. It can be a little confusing to navigate, but not too bad.
If you plan on flying into Dulles or National you should take into account rush hour traffic. Traffic in D.C. is pretty bad and can seriously increase your travel time.
If you are coming into town on Friday night plan on getting stuck in traffic. Everyone going to the beach in the Baltimore-Washington area has to past Annapolis to get there. So, please plan on spending some extra time in traffic. It is Labor Day weekend, so a lot of people will be going to the beach.
We recommmend that you rent a car, or pair up with someone else and do so. Annapolis is a subruban town. While everything downtown is within walking distance, everything else (like any grocery stores) requires a car. The wedding and ceremony will take place outside of downtown at London Town. London Town is about a 15 minute drive from downtown. For directions to the wedding see the directions page above.
